Green Party supports university wind farm project

Broxtowe Green Party has taken the decision to support plans for a new wind farm being proposed by the University of Nottingham. The plans involve the construction of a number of turbines along the river Trent in the Clifton/Rylands area and will provide an estimated third of the university’s power requirements.

Although the Party has noted the concerns of Rylands residents over noise issues we have decided to support the project in principle, subject to further information on how these concerns are to be addressed. Some have argued that if such a scheme is to go ahead then local residents should receive the energy generated, but to date only the university has been prepared to invest in this kind renewables project. The Green Party believes the local councils and other public bodies should be doing more to encourage these types of developments and we will be making this point during next May’s local elections.

Further information on the scheme can be found at the Beeston Express website: http://www.beestonexpress.co.uk/images/beestonexpress/Nov26pdfs/Nov26p1.pdf
